Why Chinese idioms?

Chinese idioms (成语) are four-character expressions that encode thousands of years of history, philosophy, and folk wisdom. Most come from classical literature, historical chronicles, or philosophical texts dating back over 2,000 years.

They are still actively used in everyday Chinese — in conversation, writing, business, and literature. Understanding them is essential for anyone learning Chinese, working with Chinese culture, or studying East Asian history.
