📖 Meaning
A Daoist legend in which a cultivator's entire household—family and dwelling—rises to the immortal realm together. It describes someone achieving such spiritual perfection that their whole family is uplifted along with them.
📜 Origin Story
Recorded in Taiping Guangji (太平广记), volume 14, citing the 'Biography of Twelve True Lords: Master Xu.' It tells of Xu Xun (许真君), a Daoist master of the Eastern Jin dynasty, who on the first day of the eighth month in the second year of Taikang (太康二年) under Emperor Xiaowu, at West Mountain in Hongzhou, ascended to immortality along with his entire household of forty-two people and their home. The tale became the archetypal story of whole-family ascension in Daoist tradition.
